Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just do part of the sessions?
In order to learn and retain the techniques taught in the eyeQ program, you need to do all the sessions. As with any newly acquired skill, repetition and frequency are the keys to mastery and longevity. We suggest a session of eyeQ every other day and doing the Two Point Training exercise on the off days for best results. For long-term retention, we suggest repeating the last five sessions every six to eight months to refresh the processing skills you have learned and keep them fresh in your mind.
Will the effects of the eyeQ last long term?
Yes. Like any skill though, if you stop reading or do not practice the techniques you learn in the eyeQ program, they will diminish over time. For long term retention of the skills learned in the eyeQ program, simply practice them each day. Dr. Kawamura found that people who did the minimum reading and eye exercises just before they started to read for the first time each day were able to continue to read at their new efficient rate. In other words, you won’t regress to your old habits if you invest as little as one minute a day maintaining your new processing capacity. A refresher of eyeQ by repeating the last several sessions every six to eight months can also reinforce the long-term effects of the program.
Is eyeQ a speed reading program?
EyeQ is a “brain enhancement” program that uses reading speed to measure its effectiveness and give immediate feedback to the user. EyeQ increases reading speed, which is why it is often called a speed reading program. The difference between eyeQ and other speed reading programs is that eyeQ uses patented variable speed exercises to increase the processing abilities in the user’s brain, which increases users’ comprehension and reading speed.
How fast do people typically read after going through the program?
The majority of people using eyeQ as prescribed will at a minimum double their reading speed while maintaining or increasing their comprehension. Those who are dedicated to and continue using the program by repeating the last five sessions can set goals and attain them. This means that your end reading speed is generally up to you as long as you are setting realistic goals and working toward them.
Can I skip around in the sessions or do I need to do them in order?
Don’t skip around the first time though the program. eyeQ has been scientifically engineered to help you increase your processing speed and comprehension. Therefore, it is best to allow the program to retrain your brain to process information faster by using the sessions in sequence. After going through the program the first time, most users repeat the last five sessions to maintain or continue to increase their processing abilities.
How often should I use the eyeQ program?
For best results, we recommend that you use the program by doing a session every other day and on the off days do a quick and easy Two Point Training exercise. Once your eyes are accustomed to the work out, you can do a session every day. If you feel eye fatigue suspend use of eyeQ for three or four days and then resume on an every other day schedule. If eye fatigue or headaches persists, discontinue using the program and consult your eye physician.
As I read faster, will my comprehension go down?
EyeQ is designed to first focus on processing speed and then comprehension after your eye-brain connection strengthens. Due to this design, most people experience an initial decrease in comprehension. However, as the brain is engaged and the eye-brain connection strengthens, comprehension generally increases above where it was before using the eyeQ program.
How does eyeQ impact my eyes?
Dr. Kawamura found that in order to process information more effectively, we can’t just speed up the brain; we also have to strengthen the coordination of the eyes, which are the “gateway” to the brain. The stronger your eye coordination becomes, the better your brain can receive and process the information you read. Simply put, the eye-brain connection is only as strong as the coordination of your eye muscles which supports your reading and processing abilities. This is why it is critically important to exercise your eye muscles.
What does "brain enhancement program" mean?
eyeQ is a brain enhancement program because eyeQ increases brain activity, as shown in fMRI report on our website. By activating the brain, eyeQ benefits the user in many areas. Users of eyeQ have increased their composite scores in reading, writing, and math on college entrance exams by more than 17%. We have also received testimonials from people who have experienced benefits in typing speed and sports performance. We have also received testimonials from customers on help with Dyslexia and ADD.
How does eyeQ impact the brain?
EyeQ activates more of the right side of the brain and recruits it into the reading process. An fMRI commissioned by Infinite Mind illustrates the effects of eyeQ on the brain. The fMRI study primarily found that “eyeQ training facilitates both the sensory and cognitive processing of language during reading.” The fMRI also showed brain activity now was significantly higher in the visual cortex and Broca’s area after using eyeQ for just one session. Increased brain activity in these key processing areas of the brain is what allows the patented processes in eyeQ to increase processing speed and comprehension at the same time.
Should I be able to read and understand everything in a session before advancing to the next session?
No. The patented eyeQ reading and eye-brain exercises are designed to push you beyond your ability to keep up with them. During the sessions, just follow the exercises. Don’t focus on comprehension and understanding until you have completed the initial twelve sessions. As your eye-brain connection strengthens, you will naturally begin to understand the meaning of what you read. This generally starts happening around session eight.
Can I break the habit of saying each word in my mind as I read?
Yes. The patented eyeQ techniques are designed to force you beyond your abilities to read one word at a time (sub-vocalization). You can maximize the effectiveness of eyeQ by focusing on the six basics of communication: who, what, where, when, why, and how. You will be able to perfect this technique by practicing conceptual reading on familiar material. This will help you break the sub-vocalization habit (reading one word at a time).
How does stress impact my reading speed and comprehension?
Stress makes it difficult to read and comprehend information. Why? Stress constricts blood vessels, slowing the flow of blood to your brain and narrowing your field of vision. If you find that you are feeling stressed, try slow deep breathing to clear your head and get oxygen into your blood. Infinite Mind has also found that putting on background music such as our Sound Health Music to Relax, which is scientifically proven to assist in relaxation, is another desirable and very easy relaxation technique.
Are there any side effects of the eyeQ program?
Some people experience eye fatigue and in some cases headaches. This may happen for several reasons. If users are wearing contact lenses, the lenses may irritate the eyes because of the rapid eye movement exercises. We recommend wearing eyeglasses instead of contact lenses during the sessions. Also, remember to close your eyes and relax for a minute if your eye muscles feel discomfort or pain. As you practice eyeQ, your eye muscles will become much stronger, reducing the possibility of eye discomfort. Some nearsighted students have actually seen improvement in their vision, requiring prescription lenses to be adjusted. Also, if you are tense during the sessions, eye fatigue or headaches may occur. Try watching the program without reading the words and remember to relax. The brain is stimulated to process faster by simply looking at the exercises. If eye fatigue or headaches persists, discontinue using the program and consult your eye physician. There may be an underlying eye problem you need evaluated.
