“Are you a good reader?” What was your response? When asked that question, most people are unsure how to answer. Studies show that a major determining factor is our level of education (see averages on chart below).
These averages are just that! Within each category there are slow readers and others that are fast. Of course speed alone is not the most important factor, but comprehension is also critical to be an effective reader.
What differentiates poor readers from skilled readers? Scientific studies have narrowed it down to three primary factors:
1. Fixation Time, which is the amount of time in milliseconds that we look at the material we are reading.
2. Fixation Span, which is the number of letters that our eyes can see at a time.
3. Regression, which is the percent of time that we look back to re-read what we just read (a particular problem for slow and poor readers).
Poor readers see only 3 letters at a time and generally are still sounding out syllables in words as they read. Skilled readers on the other hand see 9 or more letters at a glance improving their speed by 300%.
Skilled readers spend an average of 60% less time looking at a word or letters before moving on (fixation time).
Skilled readers regress only 10-15%of the time, re-reading what they just read, compared to poor readers who regress up to 50% of the time.
The eyeQ program contains techniques developed and used over the past 30 years by Dr. Akihiro Kawamura in Japan. The program helps users overcome the three major obstacles enabling virtually anyone to become a skilled reader by:
1. Strengthening the eyes to enable users to see more at a glance.
2. Training the brain to process more quickly by improving the eye-brain connection through high-speed imaging.
3. Increasing focus which helps minimize regression.
Just like going to your local gym on a regular basis will help you build and maintain strong muscles, the patented eyeQ technology does the same for your eyes. Also like going to gym, if you don't go on a regular basis, you tend to lose that strength over time.
If you have completed the eyeQ program by finishing all 12 sessions, we encourage you to go back and do the sessions over again so you can maintain the strength that your eyes have built. If you haven't started the program or haven't made it all the way through just yet, we encourage you finish the program and see how much you can improve your reading ability!
If you have never experienced eyeQ, feel free to try session 1 on us! Click on the box at the top of this blog to test your reading speed as it is now, and also after doing a session of the eyeQ program.
